Get up to 90 Days of Pain Relief With Targeted Cold Therapy
iovera° treatment applies focused cold to a specific nerve, creating a small ice ball under the skin and immediately stopping the nerve from sending pain signals.
Benefits of iovera° therapy include:
-
Decreased Pain
-
Less Stiffness
-
Improved Physical Function
How does iovera° work?
iovera° freezes the nerves that are sending pain signals to your brain. Your doctor is able to target the exact nerves that are causing your pain. This effect is not permanent—it lasts about 90 days.
What kind of results can I expect?
Results from iovera° treatment can be felt immediately after treatment. When the treatment is applied to a specific nerve, it will interrupt that nerve’s ability to send a pain signal, providing an immediate reduction in pain.
How long will the results from iovera° treatment last?
iovera° treatment targets specific nerves, so the pain relief is focused only on the part of the body that is being treated. One treatment with iovera° can last up to 90 days.
Who is a candidate for iovera° treatment?
iovera° is an option for people who are experiencing osteoarthritis pain in the knee or shoulder. It can also be given before or after knee replacement surgery to make recovery easier and less painful. Or iovera° can relieve your pain if you are not a candidate for surgery.
Is iovera° treatment painful?
No, iovera° treatment should not be painful. A numbing medication will be used on the skin of the treatment area to manage any potential discomfort. Some people describe feeling pressure or tugging during the iovera° treatment. Cold, warm, and tingling sensations are also normal, as is some level of discomfort. Tell your doctor right away if you feel any pain during your treatment.
How much does iovera° cost?
The iovera° procedure costs $1,500 for each knee. For your convenience, our office will seek to obtain prior authorization for CPT code 64640 and 0441T (Destruction by Neurolytic Agent Procedures on the Somatic Nerves). This does not guarantee approval or payment by your insurance company. Because of this, we strongly recommend you confirm whether your plan has any medical/policy exclusions for CPT 64640 and 0441T (i.e. cryoneurolysis) by reaching out to your insurance plan’s patient hotline often found on your insurance card.
