Elbow

Anatomy of the Elbow

The elbow functions as a hinge joint between the humerus bone of the upper arm and the ulna and radius bones of the lower arm. A capsule, strengthened by surrounding ligaments, encloses the common joint structure.

Importance of the Elbow

The elbow uses three flexor muscles to perform flexion and extension movements of the forearm. Injury to elbow may inhibit this movement and cause pain. Elbow injuries are often ignored and underestimated compared to injuries of larger joints, but may lead to chronic pain if untreated.
